Today Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava in the world but certainly not the largest exporter of cassava products. The Federal Government has suddenly realized the potentials in the export of cassava products particularly, cassava chips. Now there is a frenzy of activities with government forming committees and action plans having outlined how much Nigeria is capable of making from cassava products. The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan conducted tones research into improved varieties, as well as published several books and journals on cassava. It is now on record that Nigeria produces the best quality of the commodity: about 80% total world production and consumes the largest quantity of the commodity as food more than any other country on the surface Cassava cultivation has become a commercially viable investment option because of the availability of international market and favourable prices that enable u enjoy a good margin to the local cost implication. Somebody has rightly described cassava as oil that has just been discovered. And it is even easier because you may not need to get a licence for - l l i c participate in it. Cassava now has the potential to replace oil completely m create more wealth for the populace. There is no other aspect of our economy that is as profitable as,5 agriculture. Agriculture is the main stay of this country. Over 70% of our population lives on it.
